Privacy
What this website collects, why, and how to exercise your rights under the GDPR.
Short version: this site sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device for tracking, and uses privacy-preserving analytics that cannot identify you. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.
The longer version follows, because you are entitled to it.
Who is responsible
Marcos Barbero, acting as data controller. Contact: marcos@marcosbarbero.com
What is collected
Analytics
This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and writes nothing to your browser. For each page view it records:
- the page you visited and the referring page, if any
- your country, derived from your IP address
- browser and device type
- the time of the visit
Your IP address is used momentarily to determine the country and is not stored by the analytics service. No profile is built, nothing follows you between sites, and there is no way for me to identify an individual visitor from this data.
Why: to understand which pages are useful and roughly where readers are — a legitimate interest in operating and improving the site (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Because no data is stored on your device, no consent is required under the Dutch Telecommunicatiewet Art. 11.7a.
Hosting
The site is served by GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.). Like any web server, it processes technical request data including IP addresses in order to deliver the page and protect against abuse. DNS and network services are provided by Cloudflare, Inc.
Preferences stored on your device
If you use the light/dark theme toggle, your choice is saved in your browser’s
localStorage under theme. It never leaves your browser, is not sent to me or
anyone else, and is not used for tracking — it exists so the site remembers how you
like to read it. Clearing your site data removes it.
If you email or book a call
Anything you send me by email I keep for as long as needed to have a working relationship, and no longer. Bookings are handled by Cal.com, which is a separate service with its own privacy policy — the details you enter into the booking form are processed by them and shared with me.
What is not collected
- No tracking cookies, advertising identifiers, or cross-site tracking.
- No analytics profiles, session recording, heatmaps, or fingerprinting.
- No selling or sharing of data with advertisers. There are no advertisers.
- No newsletter list, unless one is added here later and you choose to join it.
International transfers
Cloudflare and GitHub are US companies and may process data outside the EEA. Both are certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and offer Standard Contractual Clauses, which is the legal basis relied on for those transfers.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or erasure of your personal data, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and request data portability. Email me and I will respond within one month.
In practice, the analytics data on this site is not linked to you and cannot be retrieved by individual, so an access request will usually only cover email correspondence.
You also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
